To start with, I won't go. I told you I wouldn't and I won't. I know it may have sounded like that, but I was trying to leave as short a message on it as possible. I did try to make it clear that I specifically meant editing.
Here works for discussing this. I would have responded sooner, but I was busy watching my nephew.
As you may or may not have guessed, this is about Gogobell. I wrote out a much longer description twice and then didn't post it, because I didn't think it was a good idea and considering Gogobell was suddenly posting in our conversation, I feel like I made the right decision there.
I feel like Gogobell, who I guess used to be staff of some sort on the wikia, is taking over the wikia. It feels like he's railroading everyone, including you. Uniformity is great and all, but this is insane. He's making up the rules and implimenting them without getting any okay from you or anyone. He has a clear way he wants to do things and quite frankly I don't agree with him. I don't really care about the book pages. I don't do anything with them anyway. Sometimes I add chapter titles, but that's about it. I think the part about the trivia section is silly and unnecessarily difficult to follow, but I don't deal with that, so I don't care so much. The end result is just kind of there. It's no better or worse in my opinion.
It's a lot of work for a limited result, but hey, I put in a lot of work for what others might see as a limited result, too, which brings us to where I am having troubles here. And that's what he's done and plans to do to the walkthroughs. As you know that's basically my pet project and the entire reason I came to the wikia. I am extremely frustrated with some of the formatting job that the other people working on the walkthroughs have done, but at least they have been getting the walkthroughs up and it has always been my plan to go through and clean them up once they are all completed (or at least up to date).
Right now, I cringe every time I open a walkthrough. The spoiler warning image that Gogobell put at the top of the walkthroughs is difficult to look at and resisting the urge to remove it is too great a temptation especially when I am on my tablet and it takes up too much of the page and therefore makes the page, all the way to the bottom look extremely weird. I am already trying to figure out how to handle that same problem with the allies page, which I will be completing regardless of what happens next (although it's almost done, so that's not much of an issue), but the only way to solve the issue for the walkthroughs is to make the image much thinner. I hate it when websites have an image of that sort. I find it extremely unappealing and while the point is to be in your face, I really don't like anything where that is the entire point of its existance.
That is not the only issue I have with the walkthroughs formatting plan he has. The spoiler image was the second straw (the first was the take over more that seems to be going on and now he's asking you to make him an admin . . . please, don't. I don't know if it's even your choice since I don't know who can make someone an admin, but please don't. Maybe he's just over eager, but right now he just seems like he's railroading everyone). The third straw was the timed choices tag. I have tried, very, very hard to keep shouting out of the walkthroughs. Shouting being defined as all caps (other than in titles) and excessive bolding. This is what he wants to have for the timed choices: ''This is a TIMED choice!''. Italics, I'm good with. I agree with. However, the shouting and exclamation point I can do with out. I think it needs to be a statement of fact not a shout. If anyone is reading that while they are playing that choice, they ran out of time anyway, so no need to yell at them. This is what I've been using. ''This is a timed choice.''. I know it sounds like such a minor thing, but it bothers me.
I am now reading through the rest of it, which wasn't there the last time I read it. Diamond choices. He has it listed that something costing 20 diamonds should be listed this way: (20 Diamonds). With the exception of the first two Endless Summer walkthroughs, all of the walkthroughs (I think, I haven't actually done anything with #LoveHacks walkthroughs) put it this way: (20 💎) This is my preference. Actually, technically, my preference is (💎 20) since that's how it's listed in the game, but it's a lot easier to do it the other way when making them, so I planned to flip them when I went through clean up. This is not a deal breaker, but if we go with that, there will be a lot of changes to make. I can probably do them in about an hour, maybe less, but there are a lot of them.
Character Change. This is actually something I wanted to do, but didn't, because it wasn't on there and I had enough work getting the walkthroughs done. I had intented to ask for permission to do this at a point later on, once the guides were up to date and I have been keeping track of them in my notes. I can totally go through the walkthrough for The Rules of Engagement, Book 1 and put in almost all of the character changes right now. That's the book that got me keeping such careful track of them. I was already doing that with The Crown & The Flame, Book 1 since I'm making my own guides on my own website. I haven't put any up yet, because formatting is fun, but so worth it. I have a lot more I am doing with the walkthroughs on my site, because no one has the stuff I want, so I decided to make them myself. Specifically with The Crown & The Flame I am making an end of chapter list of what points you can get get in the chapter, what allies and significant choices you can get in the chapter and quite a bit more, including a lot more emoties to indicate things like significant choices, timed choies, and other things in addition to the words themselves. I am not using numbers for choices. Instead, I am including the line above the choice. This eliminates things like explaining what the name of an outfit is when the actual choice is "Buy this outfit!" or something like that.
I also have issues with the first two on his list of abbreviations, but at that point, that's me being picky about things I don't read. I don't know worldwide, but I almost never hear the word television. It's always TV. And I cringe when people leave out spaces after periods. I'm pretty sure it's LA, not L.A or L.A. or even L. A. (which wasn't suggested in his list not was LA), but again, I don't read the places that will have that and in the comments I don't have to care about his rules.
So that's all I can think of at the moment. There probably were other things, but it's been stressful watching this progress over the last couple of days and if things continue as they are, I figure I just have to conclude that my mission has been accomplished, even if not as complete as I want, it will get there which there was no sign of when I started. Now there are people working on walkthroughs. There are walkthroughs started for every single book that's currently out. Even if I stop editing, people will complete them. They won't look the way I want them to, but they will complete them. And I will redo the links to the guides on my user page so that I don't have to look at the spoiler warning. It won't help me on my tablet, since the problem the images create there will still be there, but at least I won't have to see it on my PC until such a point as I can complete my own guides and use them instead.
Oh, and the jumping into our conversation like that did not improve my opinion of him, especially when if felt like his whole point was to tell us, you're wrong to even be talking about this. I had seen his opinion elsewhere and chose not to reply, because as I stated in my reply to him, although his ideas are probably accurate, we weren't discussing what was probably going to happen, we were discussing what could happen if they were to try to include the main characters from It Lives In the Woods in a bigger way than seems probable. And while it's not probable, it's possible that they will try to do that. We just don't know. I was not happy when I saw one of his responses to someone on this topic where he wrote:
Gogobell wrote: Wait...I think you don't understand. There WON'T be two stories at once.
The It Lives In The Woods story is FINISHED. COMPLETED. OVER. THE END. That your MC lives doesn't matter at all, it can be Noah or it can be the MC, the only thing that matters is the shadow monster (that will come back) and that's it. Even if your MC lives, you won't be able to play with it in the next book. The story of your MC is over...whatever happened to him/her at the end.
All of the regular characters who their fates are determinant will NOT come back a lot...maybe a few cameos, a few flashbacks (for everyone) but that's it. Their story is over. The It Lives - Untitled Sequel will be with a BRAND NEW MC (for everyone), and a NEW BUNCH of characters (for everyone).
So DO NOT restart the book, it really won't matter.
This is the thinking behind my statement. It is by no means finalized and I will still be on messages regardless of what I do with the editing. Sorry for all the complaints listed here, but in order for you to understand where I'm coming from, they do need to all be here, so there you have it. I am willing to compromise on some things
I had a feeling it was because of that user. You're right, I can't make him an admin and will be asking staff if they can promote me to bureaucrat. Even Wolf doesn't seem to get along with Gogobell based on past interactions. I am trying harder to set my foot down. Do you feel like more people would weigh in their opinion, if say I made a blog post and had them.
I don't know how many people pay attention to the blogs. I know you are doing your best to get people's attention with your blog post and hopefully that will get people's attention. I know I worry about being rude and I'm sure most people, if they have been paying attention know this is a direct result of Gogobell's actions in the last couple days. There may be an element of intimidation as well. As I said, I felt like Gogobell was railroading everyone, both in his edits and his comments. It can be a little difficult to openly comment against someone in that manor. At one point I felt like posting on Gogobell's page or the rules page or something "You want to do that with the walkthroughs. Have fun changing everything, because literally none of them look the way you are describing. And since you are arbitrarily changing the format I have figured out and used for every single walkthrough except for the first couple which I didn't make and haven't done any edits to and that everyone else currently making walkthroughs is using, I'll just let you make those changes."
So how much of what I said should I post in the comments of your blog post, because I think I should say something, but I don't think I should say all of this.
Gogobell should have posted a message on BigLenny's page asking him to go the Chat, not posted it in the comments. I agree that the trivia should be there, although I think the wording needs work, but that is not the place to communicate with people in that manner.
I think just like that is pretty good. I would just make sure you sound polite and not like you are trying to start a fight. So just watch out for wording that can sound like you are personally attacking her. Just think of it as constructive criticism. For now, I told Gogobell to stop the editing overhaul. Instead help out with things like actually getting tabs to work to show for example Young/Old (for ILITW characters), the way the freshman looked in their freshman year, and how they look in the sophomore on their infoboxes. For Hero, the civilian look and the superhero look. I have warned Gogobell and have asked staff for some advice on the matter since Wolf has been MIA. If Lowell continues. give me a heads up, I think I will have look at possible punishments if he refuses to listen. Also... Do you know how to go into ur profile for here and hide the wikia u frequent? I do it for myself, because that way, people I have blocked won't pester me at all the wikias I frequent. The rule of thumb is that if a user gets block, the common ground is the community staff wikia.
I am working on writing a response to your post. At the moment this is what I have. I have not yet started working on my thoughts on the walkthroughs, well, not mostly, so this is not complete, but I thought I would ask for your thoughts on it:
I respect the desire for uniformity amongst the pages of the wikia. That is a reasonable and understandable desire. However, I do not appreciate the way this was gone about and felt like this was pushed onto everyone including Fearless Diva without consideration for any other viewpoints.
As one of the major contributors to the walkthroughs, it has been difficult to look at the page entitled Rules of Formatting and see it list things on it that I have purposely done in a specific way listed as being required to do in a different way. There is one thing listed there that I want to do, but have not done, because I have not as of yet asked Fearless Diva for permission to do. I believe that any major changes should be run by her (or Wolf, but he has not been around and she has been my contact since the first time I needed to contact staff about something).
The way I see if this "Rules of Formatting" should have completed section by section and with the completion of each section Fearless Diva should have been consulted and if it was a deviation from the current way things were being done on that type of page, major contributors should have been asked for their opinion as well. And while all opinions should have been considered, Fearless Diva should be the one to make the call. No changes to pages should have been made prior to her decision unless it was already something that made a page or a few pages conform to what the majority of the pages of that type already did.
That said, I have no issues with the proposed formatting for the book pages. Well, I have issues, but they are minor and not worth bringing up here beyond the fact that some exist. Mostly I fit them under the category of overkill and anything I fit under the category of overkill, I generally believe is fine so long as someone else is taking care of figuring them out. As I am only a contributor to the book pages in as much as I occasionally add a book title or a summary, I believe I will leave that to those who are major contributors to the book pages to voice their opinions.
As for the walkthrough pages, I am much more invested in their development.
Okay. Good to know I am on the right track. I'm trying to be as polite as I can and still get my point across. Let's see if I can stick to that when I discuss the walkthroughs. I'll start with the first line of the paragraph that I already posted above.
As for the walkthrough pages, I am much more invested in their development. I joined this wikia, because there were only three walkthroughs and I wanted to change that. I did my best to follow the format that was already there. And when I wanted to change something, I always tried to ask Fearless Diva. For a while the only other guide that people were working on was It Lives In the Woods and in time, other people started working on the other guides as well. It was a slow process and while it is not done yet, we have a walkthrough started for every book that is out as of now. I'm proud of that and I am excited that the wikia has a central location for people to easily find these walkthroughs.
I'm not going to pretend that these guides are perfect or complete, but there is a clear format that we are using for them and it's not what's listed in that formatting guide. As I said above, these is something on the list that I have been planning to ask Fearless Diva for permission to do. That would be adding point of view changes. I since I'm not sure of the format yet and I've mostly been focused on getting first drafts done, I've been keeping track of the changes in several of the notes in my notebooks. It is something that I plan to ask her permission for, but until and unless she okays that idea I don't plan to do it. There are several things I object to in the listing for walkthroughs and I could list them, but the point is, this isn't a call that should have been made, by any one person (with the exception of Fearless Diva, but I believe she would have worked with those of us working on the walkthroughs to make such a list of formatting rules for them).
Ultimately, the biggest thing here is that this is a community. We work together and Fearless Diva is our leader. It has been pointed out more than once that Wolf is MIA, so it's not the both of them, it's her. We listen to her and we don't tell her what to do or what we are going to do. We ask her. And more than than anything, that's bugged me about this whole situation.
Actually, you know what. I still haven't an idea of the format. Someone did put some point of views in one of the walkthroughs recently (not Gogobell, but someone who has actually been working on them), so I think I'd best just go ahead an ask now. What do you think of the idea of putting the change of point of view in the guide? I don't like the way it is currently in there, because they put it under the choice or something like that and I think it should be before the first choice with that character, but what do you think of the idea? I think if we do it, it needs some other indicator than is currently used. I. E. not italics or bold and not a heading. Probably not centered, but that's a possibility. I know how to center something without making it a heading. I had to make some templates to center somethings, because adding in the coding every time was getting a little annoying. I have learned a lot of coding from my wikias (I think I have sixteen). On that note, I do know how to find the coding for switching images in an infobox if Gogobell doesn't know how to do that yet. And I'm really good at figuring out how to insert coding and modify it to fit what is needed. I've been piecing together my own infoboxes for years, because no one I found how infoboxes that did what I wanted.
Also, Gogobell removed the dating info from the page for Endless Summer, Book 3. I seem to recall someone else doing that at some point and being told not to, after which it was put back. I thought you should know. What you do with this info is your call of course and I don't remember if it was you or Wolf who made that call previously, but I image if it was you, you are probably of the same opinion still.
Good news. Although I really don't like the spoiler alert image, I have done some more experimenting (now that I am no longer seeing red other than the red in the image) and it does not mess up the whole page, only the top and only when my iPad is wide rather than tall (if that makes sense). And if that is the case as it appears to be, while I don't want the image there, if you decide you want the image, I think you only have to have it shrunk by about the width of four letters or so, so maybe have the letters brought down one font size and the boarder shorted a little. I dislike the image, but if it could be made small enough to not mess up my screen, I could deal with it. Other than the width, my biggest issue with it is the giant exclamation sign. I don't mind the words. So if the exclamation mark could be removed from it and the width shrunk to accommodate the removal, that would fix the width problem and completely eliminate my objections to it. (Edited to Add: Looks like he changed the image, making it smaller. It's still ugly and I still don't like it, but it is small enough that it doesn't mess up my screen at all, so it's an acceptable compromise. I do think if we are going to keep it, we should see if we can center it, because I think that would help, but if I recall correctly wikia made centering anything tricky. I know how to do it and I think it still works for images. Thoughts?)
So anyway, that is my section on the walkthroughs and my concluding statement. Thoughts?
Edited to Add: Why is Gogobell responding to my messages to you as if he is some sort of authority figure? I am beginning to think the only way I can have a conversation with you on any topic without him jumping in is to post it here. I was tempted to respond to his response with "Who is this 'we' you speak of? Neither you nor I have any authority here? Only Fearless Diva does." The funny thing is, if it was anyone else, I probably wouldn't care, but then if it was anyone else, they probably wouldn't have worded it that way.
I have confronted him (http://choices-stories-you-play.wikia.com/wiki/Thread:14191). Depending on his answer... I think I probably will be forced to block Lowell. He is just not listening and yeah, him butting in every thread that concerns me is rubbing me the wrong way. Idk if its just me but him acting like an authority figure so short after asking for admin rights... Makes me think he wants to be an admin back. If you have time... let me know when u might be able to jump on chat? Are u on twitter? if u follow me, I can DM you and we can have more privacy just in case about some of the things we want to discuss.
I don't know much about chat, but I image anyone currently on can get on there. At the moment that seems unwise.
I do have twitter, four accounts actually. They all have different purposes. @StoryGirl83 or @MarlenaHarris works. The first is pretty random whatever I want to discuss while the second is more focused on writing, both mine and that of others. Is your handle Fearless Diva there? And which would you prefer I follow you with, since you would have to follow me back in order for us to converse there?
As for your walkthrough idea... I had read but it appears I didn't respond to it. I think its cause of u telling me Gogo had deleted the ES book 3 info. I think the POV change u mention works best! So u have my permission for that.
Hello there. I've been looking around this wiki and I notice that you have amazing creativity. To the point, on my main wiki I have a story that is a crossover between Percy Jackson and Charmed. My character is the granddaughter of Phoebe. Now, in my seperate story which details the life of my character and her many cousins, I came to a part where I can split the story into side-stories and I think you have both the correct resources (i.e Characters, creativity etc) and I could use someone that has actual knowledge of the Charmed Universe to help me with my side story. The plot of the side-story is that a character has to lead a team into the Tomb of a pharaoh of Egypt to find a magical artefact (Yet to be disclosed) But from there, you can write a story about your character. Please let me know ASAP
I'm not sure what you are asking. Are you wanting my help in writing it? Do you want to use one of my characters? Do you need additional information about one of the character? Please, clarify.
I have not yet seen the Percy Jackson movies or read any of the books. It is on my list of things I want to do, but I have not yet.
I only have one character, at present, who is Phoebe's grandchild, Kaela. Well, I have three, but the other two are a little confusing and are not quite a certainty yet. I have paired off both Ladybug and Hope (my version of Phoebe and Coop's youngest) with their future spouses, although Hope's situation may not actually show up in the series. He'll be in the series, but because of her age, I don't know if I will get to a point where there relationship . . . becomes a relationship, even friendship wise. He's a couple of years older than her and a future friend of one of her cousins. Of course, you already have your own character who is Phoebe's granddaughter and has her own backstory.
If what you need is information, ask away. I try to my best to keep the information I have about Charmed accurate, especially since I write so much in the universe. If it is something else you need, let me know what and I will see if it is something I can help with.
t would be amazing if you could be a writer in one of the side-stories. If you are available and I do hope you accept. It wouldn't take up too much time. And it may, if you wish, lead into your own seperate story. Let me know.
Sorry, I meant to check back here sooner. I was gone for a week. Here's the thing. I don't do short. My stories tend to be incredibly long. The current episode I am working on has two side stories at the moment, because I felt that sixty-five thousand (and counting) words wasn't enough to tell the whole story. One side story is currently at twenty-five hundred words with a lot to go. It is a one shot where one of the characters, Charles Lancaster, is convinced that he should summon his deceased brother to finally say good-bye. He hasn't summoned his brother yet or even been fully convinced that he should yet. The other is much longer. With huge gaps needing filled it is currently at eleven thousand words. The main character in focus there is Cassia Reynolds.
I'm trying to figure out how to give you my email address without posting it on here for anyone to read so that you can contact me directly. I would like to know more about you're wanting, but, as evidenced by how slowly I responded, I don't always go on here that fast. If you go to my Charmed Heritage ProBoards site, you can find one of my emails there. Use that to contact me if you'd like to give me more info so I can determine if I am able to help you or not.
This is the main collaboration story: and this is my spin-off: This is the Chapter where everything is explained:
The main basis of your side-story is that you are leading a team of Wiccan witches into a cave surrounded with Egyptian magic. I'm sure you have seen the Kane Chronicle books. It's sort of a nod to that. You will detail all the different beings, monsters, demons etc. That we will find in the Tomb. Now you remember the episode "Y Tu Mummy Tambien" and the demon Jeric. This could be a great opportunity to bring forth the demons and the heritage of magic surrounding Egypt. I'm taking Sphinx Demons, or Scorpion Demons, or Snake Charming Darklighters etc. You could even help my character, Eve, in either switching demons to the Light side, or finding new witches to join the Charmed Coven. It's a great basis to explore the magic of Egypt in the eyes of Wiccan witches and how they can put their adolescent magic to the test.
I could really use a Charmed experienced writer to write in my story, it would make the story fantastic. The writers I have are semi-Charmed enthusiasts. I have a broad and strong knowledge of the subject but you know, I could also use you, another knowledgeable fan.
Hey, good to hear from you. I've been busy, too, although a situation online has pushed my to work on the various wikias I run, so things have gotten done as far as appearances of wikias. What do you think of the background? The main page is going to undergo some changes in the next few days, too. And I made a list of rules to hopefully make certain things not happen. I didn't really want to make a bunch of rules and I will probably pare it down at some point, but something needed to be done fast.
Off the top of my head, I'm not really sure, but since I am currently trying to get the front pages set up for the various wikias I work on, perhaps you could take a look at some of the ones I have done for the comic wikis. Basically they are all the same with their assorted color schemes, but since this one is about Fanfics rather than comics, I want to do it a little different. Check out GrimmFairyTales.wikia.com and see what you think of the main page. It is an assortment of the main pages of various different wikias I looked at. In the section about comics series there I would like to put sections on the different fanfic series on the site. Instead of a video of the month, maybe a series of the month. Maybe a instead of Character of the month, Halliwell of the month (or something about character from the show of the month) and original character of the month, to give original characters a chance. Issue of the month could be story/episode of the month. Replace the side image with something else, maybe the extra sections on characters. Or maybe something about author of the month that cannot be the author of the series of the month.
Or if you have some stuff that you think that might look better design wise, show me what you have. I certainly don't have to duplicate what I did with the comic wikias. It's just a place to start.
You could keep video of the Month. There are tons of fan made video for Charmed. It might be a nice change of pace for all the write word and gave those fanfiction with a video a way of showing off. I would do both OC and Charmed character, not just Halliwell. I would love quote of the mouth. I would just do Author of the month. If it is the same as the one who wrote the series of the month, than oh well. I would make it so that you can't have the same 'thing' be the thing of the month two month in a row. It will gave other a shot. I would have both series and story of the month.
I'll see what I can do to see if I can make this work. But I have idea. :)
Is there any good sites that tell you "How To" guilds for wiki. There is something I would like to add the temeplates but don't want to have to bug you ever time. Like for the new quick bio thing It would be nice to add Future Kids for children not born on in the time frame of the show, but come to our time thought time travel. Faction or group would be a nice thing too. It could quickly tell the reader who is on what team and so on. If you don't want me to mess with them that is fine as well.
Oh and how to you get the Page of the Month stuff on the page. That is one of the main reason It is in a side show format.
I don't know any good how to guides for wikis and I have looked a lot trying to figure out how to do things. At the moment the best I can do is a blog post I wrote and it only tells you how to do one thing. It's better than nothing, so here it is:
As to how to get that stuff on the main page, you have to just use the fancy brackets with the name of the template and it will be put there. Of course coding makes it look different. Push edit on the main page I mentioned a few days ago and take a look at the code. I don't know if that will help much. If it doesn't I'll try to do something useful to aid in the pursuit of coding later, but it will have to wait. I'm trying to get The Charmed Comic Wiki ready for something. I am still not ready, but because of certain events I feel I need to start getting other people involved, so I am going to have votes for profile pics for characters and for all this of the month stuff. I have some of it ready for voting, but the of the month stuff I am starting to advertise for voting starting tomorrow. I want to wait until tomorrow to give me one more day to have them all set up for voting. Feel free to take a look. Pay particular attention to the Announcements and click more to get the details. That's a particularily interesting template page. No voting until tomorrow, if you want to vote and no voting on profile pics until the beginning of next month.
You should be able to comment on you wall. You were blocked because you continually ignored me. You were told not to bold thigs. You did anyway. You were told to fix various templates you made with specific info about some of it. You didn't make even one of the changes I mentioned. Nor did you ask for help when you couldn't do something. You were told to not to change names of pages. You have stopped doing that, but it took a while for you to do that.
As I have told you before, I do want you to help, but you have to listen to me when I tell you something, so that is the short version of why you are blocked for a week. I hope I don't have to do that, again.
Since you are here, I figure I will invite you onto this site if you write fanfics for Charmed. There are rules here, too, but basically if it's your character or your story, you can do whatever you want with the page and to some degree the categories it goes into. This includes making your own templates if you prefer to use them over the ones made for the site. Any categories specific to your fanfics, are also for you to decide how to handle, although there is a specific way of wording page names and category names. I will change any incorrectly names pages and categories. Any pages not specifically for your characters or your stories, ask and listen to the answer. If you don't write fanfics, don't worry about it. If you do, read the indexes before you do anything if you do decide to post here.
If you stray from pages you created for your stories (if you have any), I will be watching you closely. And if I find that you are ignoring me, again on any wikia where I am an admin, you will find yourself in more trouble.
